How does a Whitman muffler work?

A Whitman muffler is administered through a Baffle Assembly, which is the key to sound cancellation. The Baffle Assembly creates a reflected sound wave that obstructs the frequency of the first sound wave. It works by allowing the first wave to enter the Baffle Assembly through perforations, where it then hits the wall of the Baffle Assembly, and then comes barrelling back out of the area through which it initially entered.

Our systems are 94% cleaner, fully welded and are built from fully aluminized material with a combination of 16 Ga. and 18 Ga. aluminized steel. The residential market may use a light gage stamped and crimped muffler to save cost, but these do not have the life expectancy or sound attenuation required by our customers.

Whitman Mfg. provides exhaust systems to customers such as John Deere, MTD Products and Briggs and Stratton. We also manufacture products for the auto aftermarket exhaust industry. Products such as resonators, “J” hooks and catalytic heat shields are supplied to companies such as Tenneco, Catco, and warehouses that supply muffler shops.

We also do produce exhaust components such as resonators, catalytic converter shells and heat shields for the auto aftermarket.
